Heaven has a lot more joy today;
    Salsa just got there.

At first glance, looking at a 120lb Rottweiler
    gives you pause.

I heard this big guy was friendly, but took my
time handling him our first meeting just shortly
before Christmas. I needn't have worried, as this
huge hulk of a dog was as sweet and friendly as
you can possibly imagine. He was happy from
the day he came to us, and enjoyed all the
    attention.

A few days after he came to the kennel, he
developed an ear infection. We brought him up to the front office to have a veterinarian examine him.
He endured several cats running around and poking at him, people opening and closing his mouth, and
having every part of his body checked. I believe he enjoyed all of the attention.

Salsa became a joyful member of the Canine Sanctuary and jumped in with all four paws. He loved to play
with toys, never ripping them. He could find a tennis ball in deep snow. He also specialized in stealing
volunteers coffee left within his reach. If the coffee was finished, he would run off with the cup for a quick
game of "catch me if you can."

He played well with other dogs and seemed so perfectly content with his new life waiting in a kennel for a
home. He was picked up by another shelter when his former owner tied him out next to a bus stop in
Philadelphia. He had been scheduled to be euthanized December 17th, but Kodi's Club Rescue spotted him
and knew he was a keeper and just had to be saved.

Sadly for all of us, Salsa had a blood disorder which did not show up until recently. It took him
over very quickly. He was rushed to the vet January 24th as he began to quickly decline. Despite
several transfusions, Salsa could not produce his own platelettes and became weaker and weaker.
This blood disorder known as ITP took himbaway from us long before he should have had to go.
Salsa was put to rest twenty-four hours later to relieve his suffering.

    Such a short life.

At only two years old, we wanted him to have a second chance; a new life when he would get adopted into a
wonderful family, but it was not to be. I am so sad for this lovable, loving, happy "puppy" to have lost his life
so soon, and for all of us who knew him well to no longer see his joy or to have him make us laugh.

Heaven has a lot more joy today, Salsa just got there...
